The way things are…

Overall we had a good weekend.

On Saturday we participated in the American Heart Association 5k walk without any kids. Jenny stayed home and Tori with Grandma and Grandpa. It was fun and our employer gave us some nice shirts for participating. We managed to walk the course in about 52 minutes. There were a lot of people there! After we got home Brian went and borrowed his dad’s and his brother’s kayaks. He took Jenny out and later on he and I went. I was fun and very relaxing, so quiet on the lake. Very nice.

I had taken Tori to Best Buy (electronics store) earlier in the day. She had gotten a gift certificate for her birthday from her God Parents. If I say I took her there, I should back up a bit. She got the giftcertificate for Best Buy, but had asked me to trade it in for cash so she could go to Meijer (food & department store) so she could buy these figures instead. That’s what she did. Made out on the deal too, she ended up spending $26 instead of the $20 that her certificate was for.

Now I had a gift certificate, so we headed to Best Buy lol I bought an external hard drive which is the size of my Palm Pilot. It holds 160GB of data. I put all out pictures and movies on it (the ones I downloaded from iTunes and Amazon). I still have 120GB to go. lol

I ran 10 miles on Sunday and got home at 8am after leaving the house at 6. The game plan was that after I got back that Brian was going quadding with one of his friends. He had his dad’s truck (that’s how he brought the kayaks home) and was just going to load the quad on that instead of trailering it. When I was returning from my run he was tying up the kayak in the truck instead of his quad. His parent’s well broke (the well is what automatically pumps the water into the house, because they are not tied into city water), something needed to be replaced. So he headed over there instead.

I took Jenny to Lancaster at 11ish so she could attend a dog thing/registration. Someone else was going to drop her back off at the house, so I headed to Brian’s parents place to pick him up. The well was fixed, and Brian was starving. So we headed to Lancaster so he could eat. The girls and I had already eaten before he headed out earlier. After getting him fed and a stop at Meijers we finally headed home.

Today I signed up for school again. Maybe Ericka inspired me, I dont know. The last class I took, which was a year ago I got a D in. I was very dissapointed in myself and disillusioned with the degree I was going to get, paralegal studies. So today I changed my major to Business Management and signed up for 2 classes. I have a total of 20 classes to take, but I already have 8 classes that I was able to transfer (total of 28 needed to graduate). Cross your fingers and hope the best that I’ll stick this one out. I am hoping to take 2 classes a quarter, and get this degree eventually. Hopefully before my boss retires. lol

I was going to finish today’s blog with saying that nothing else happened, but since I wrote the last few lines Brian and I had gone to lunch and the subject of Ericka, school, and transportation has come up. Consider this: she lives on campus. And if you don’t mind me saying so I am upset with Brian right now. I am upset with the fact that he made a desicion without me, turning 180 degrees on what we had previously agreed on. Let me back up so you can follow me.

Originally we agreed that it would be best for Ericka if she didn’t have a car while she’s in college, at least for the first semester so she would get used to the school, get into a rhythem so to speak. There are many universities that do not allow freshmen to have cars on campus (not to mention the freshman parking lot is over 1/2 mile away, but campus does offer a shuttle bus to the lot and back). Well, while we were on campus last Thursday Brian let Ericka get a parking pass so she could have a car on campus. I was not thrilled, but she’s not my daughter so I kept my mouth shut.

On the way home we agreed that we would not let her borrow our car, and more than likely she would not get her mom’s car either. Well *deep breath* today on our way to lunch Brian tells me that he talked with Ericka (via SMS) and that we are giving her the car temporarily so she can drive back and forth to Lancaster when she needs to until they know when and if her boyfriend is being shipped to Afghanistan. I guess Brian made that decision without me because he didn’t want to hear me complain. And he admitted that he’d rather have me complain than Ericka. Hmmm It doesn’t matter that he let her have the car so much as it does bother me that he didn’t check with me first. That is a first in our relationship and it hurts. Am I reading too much into this?

So now I am thinking about you and Papa, and the reverse order of things. Do I want my husband to act only in my interest and set aside the wants and needs of his kids, or do I want to always draw the short end of the stick, which is exactly how I feel lately and told Brian so. Am I wrong to have certain reasonable expectations of his children? Brian points out the fact that he was raised differently, but does that mean that his way of growing up/being raised is the right way? I always have this feeling that he thinks the way I was brought up was wrong. You can’t image the teader todder that’s going on in my head right now.

To be continued…hopefully with a happy ending! ;)
